Mason High School student killed in wrong-way crash identified [Video]

MASON Ohio (WXIX) – The teen driver killed in a wrong-way crash that shut down Interstate 71 for most of the morning commute Thursday was a Mason High School student, school records show.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver was identified as Chad Samuel Case, 17, of Mason.

“Our hearts are with Sam’s family and friends during this heartbreaking time,” Mason City Schools said in a statement.

Grief counselors and therapy dogs will be at Mason High School on Friday to help students and staff cope with the tragedy, which comes just before graduation this weekend.

“Tonight, we are grieving the loss of a Mason High School student who was in a tragic car crash on I-71 early this morning,” reads an update from the district to students and their families.
