May is Lupus Awareness Month. For the thousands of people who have the autoimmune disease, they struggle day in and day out. Cherry Teal has been struggling with lupus for almost two decades. The Winston-Salem native is opening up about her fight with the disease in hopes it will help others dealing with it.”It affects my liver, my kidneys, and here recently, it has affected my eyes, leaving me legally blind for a couple of weeks,” Teal said.The mother of two said she was terrified when she was diagnosed back in 2007.”I had to come out of work for an entire year. I had to have a nurse come take care of me. My mother had to move in. My husband and mother had to take turns taking care of me in between the nurse coming,” Teal said.
