MDOT kicks off National Work Zone Awareness Week | News [Video]

Midland, Mich. (WJRT) – The goal during April 15-19 is to educate road users and workers about the importance of Work Zone Safety.

“Driving is probably the most dangerous thing we do and we do it everyday,” said Grand Region Communications Representative for MDOT, John Richard. “We want people to slow down, get home safe and use focus at all times, because it is easier said than done,” said Richard.

According to MDOT, in Michigan in 2023, there were over 7,000 work zone crashes, with 17 of those deadly. There were also 20 work zone deaths, where two were road workers.

The message for every motorist this year is: “Work zones are temporary. Actions behind the wheel can last forever.”
