Memorial Park Apartment support fund helps those displaced after fatal SUV crash [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Last week, an SUV crashed into an apartment building, resulting in the loss of two lives and the evacuation of residents due to severe damage to the building and a ruptured gas line.

Now the Black Hills Area Community Foundation is helping the residents by creating the Memorial Park Apartment Support Fund.

“The Black Hills Area Community Foundation has a long tradition of stepping up to help the community at moments of great need, so we thought it was appropriate to devote some funds from our disaster relief fund to help care for those families while they resolve this situation and get moved back into permanent housing of some kind,” said Eric Zimmer, the director of philanthropy for the foundation.

Other organizations, including Pennington County Emergency Management, Feeding South Dakota, Meals on Wheels, and Pennington County Housing, are collaborating to provide services and care to 51 of the people who are temporarily staying at the Rapid City Downtown …
