Memphis Shelby County Schools announce a salary increase for SROs [Video]

Amid tensions, Memphis Shelby County Schools announced a salary increase for School Resource Officers (SROs) following negotiations with the superintendent.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — At a Tuesday afternoon Committee Meeting, Memphis Shelby County Schools (MSCS) Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins, announced a salary increase for School and Security Resource Officers (SROs) will go into effect.

This development followed a letter ABC24 obtained late last night from the superintendent, which outlined a new proposed salary plan for SROs.

“The superintendent met with them,” said Rev. Althea Greene, Shelby County Board of Education Chair. “Our new safety director met with them, and I think we have satisfied them.”

A move was quickly announced to resolve the tension at MSCS. 

“We have decreased the number of steps from nine to five, so they get you their top step, if you will, much faster, which is $30,” Feagins said.
