Midwest Honor Flight: A life of service helps South Dakota veteran to beat the odds [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Veterans on the Midwest Honor Flight’s 19th mission lived a life of service outside of their work in the armed forces, too. One of the best examples is Doug Wilson of Sioux Falls. He served his country and his local community.

Wilson joined the Marine Corps right out of high school in 1969 and served in country in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971. He felt a call to continue serving when he returned home. Wilson said being a firefighter was the highlight of his life.

“I tell you firefighter is the best job in the world,” Wilson described. “I was a firefighter/EMT. One of the highlights of my career probably was delivering two emergency childbirths, but yeah, I fought fire, I drove a firetruck and had a good time.”
