Milwaukee Common Council finalizes RNC soft security perimeter ordinance, guns allowed [Video]

Tuesday, Milwaukee’s full common council finalized its soft security perimeter ordinance for the Republican National Convention. The group passed an ordinance that bans just about every item that could be used as a weapon within the footprint, except one actual weapon: a gun. The soft security zone runs from West Clybourn to West Cherry streets and North 9th to North Water streets in downtown Milwaukee, but a state law prohibits the city from banning guns. “I think everyone would feel uncomfortable with guns there, but we can’t violate state statute,” Milwaukee Common Council President Jose Perez told reporters Tuesday.
