Motorcyclist remains critical after street racing crash in southwest Wichita [Video]

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Authorities say a motorcyclist suffered extremely critical injuries in a crash while racing in southwest Wichita.

Deputies responded just before 10 p.m. Wednesday to an injury accident at K-42 and Ridge Road. Sgt. Matt McElwee with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said a group of motorcycles was heading east on K-42 when one of the riders attempted to race. 

The motorcycle hit an eastbound vehicle and left the roadway. The rider was unresponsive and taken to a local hospital. 

“Street racing is pretty prevalent out here. I think this just goes to show the extreme dangers of that,” Sgt. McElwee said.

The motorcyclist’s name has not been released. The sheriff’s office said he remained in critical condition Thursday morning.
