MPS money mess: State threatening to withhold millions from the district [Video]

The state is threatening to withhold millions of dollars from Milwaukee Public Schools. Officials at the Department of Public Instruction say the district failed to provide key financial documents. In some cases, the reports are more than eight months past due. “There are no public school districts that are currently in the situation that Milwaukee’s in,” DPI Executive Director Sachin Chheda said.In a letter sent to MPS Superintendent Keith Posley on Friday, the DPI said that MPS had not submitted data that was due in September and December 2023.”At some level there’s an analogy here to the homework’s just not getting done. So what we did is we went to the board and we said, you know, there are some some some ramifications that are imminent here. And I think the board has jumped into action,” said Chheda. “It’s pretty clear the board was not fully informed by the administration.” …
