LINCOLN, Neb. (KTIV) – Gov. Pillen has announced the authorization of a crew and helicopter to assist communities affected by recent flooding and heavy rain.

Governor Jim Pillen has authorized the use of a military helicopter and crew to assist with search and rescue in and around the Sioux City area in Northwest, Iowa, according to the governor’s office.

The office says four members from the Nebraska National Guard departed Saturday afternoon and will immediately start operations, which will last through Monday, June 24. The crew and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter will provide communities with relief. Iowa National Guard members are currently involved with search and rescue operations.

The governor’s office says this request for assistance came from the Emergency Management Assistance Compact and allows mutual assistance between states with authorization by a governor.
