New football camp welcomes college prospects in the KC metro [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A new kind of football camp welcomed KC metro area student-athletes over the weekend with minds set on college recruitment.

J.C. Harmon High School in Kansas City, Kan., said that on Saturday, June 22, the inaugural I-70 Padded Camp was held to allow coaches and athletes to practice in a controlled padded environment.

Officials noted that the event gave community athletes the chance to learn offensive and defensive schemes as they develop their skills for the upcoming football season. Students gained the chance to be seen by college counts as several programs along I-70 were invited – on both sides of the border.

Keith O’Neal, the football coach and P.E. teacher who created the program, indicated that the event was an attempt to get area student-athletes more collegiate exposure which is sometimes consumed by suburban programs.
