New guidelines to prevent falls [Video]

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – More older adults die in Wisconsin from falling than any other state. New federal guidelines may help lower the risk.

This update comes from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, part of the Department of Health and Human Services.

This is important information to pass on to your older loved ones and friends.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 1 in 4 adults over the age of 65 report falling every year. In Wisconsin, emergency medical services responded to over 130,000 falls in 2022, the latest data available.

The latest guidelines are in line with previous guidelines, recommending exercise to help lower the risk. A structured exercise program may be what your doctor orders if you’re an older adult at risk of falling.
