Nonprofits launch weekend summer food program [Video]

United Way of Anderson has partnered with Anderson Interfaith Ministries to launch their Summer Food 4 Kids program. The program aims to help feed low-income families over the summer. “The program kind of carries on what United Way does during the school year with the Snack Pack backpack program,” said Sarah Ann Bannister, AIM director of resource development. “So we go out into under-resourced communities and give out bags of food.”AIM is a nonprofit that designed their program to focus on providing children with food for the weekend. “During the week, there are federally funded programs for the schools that provide kids with food,” said Bannister. “But on the weekends, they are not. So most of these kids are just going weekends without food.” The program will distribute food at more than 15 different locations during the summer to feed around 5,000 kids. “When they see us, they get excited …
