NRMA Insurance research finds four in five Australians feel anxious about extreme weather events [Video]

Extreme weather is taking a toll on the mental health of Australians.

The study found the concern is heightened among people who live in areas of high-risk of extreme weather events and younger people between the ages of 18 and 24.

Lifeline Australia has experienced a 25 per cent increase in phone calls to its dedicated disaster recovery helpline over the past three years, with 430,000 calls taken during that time.

“Australians are turning to Lifeline’s online resources now more than ever,” wellbeing lead Dr Ally Nicolopoulos said.

“They’re looking to understand what they’re experiencing and to find practical ways they can manage their mental health and wellbeing.”
