Officials investigating after fire damages home on Ashley River Road [Video]

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – An early-morning house fire left a portion of a home on Ashley River Road thoroughly burned.

St. Andrews Chief Fire Marshal Kevin Berkel said fire crews with the St. Andrews and City of Charleston Fire Departments responded to the 2400 block of Ashley River Road on reports of a structure fire just after 1:30 Saturday morning.

Upon arrival, firefighters found “heavy fire conditions” which covered the front porch and extended up into the second floor.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire withing 20 minutes before they finished extinguishing all hot spots.

One person was home during the fire but successfully escaped with no injuries.

No firefighters were injured.

Berkel said he went to the scene to begin the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.
