OJ Simpson has died at 76 following a battle with cancer.

News of the former football player, who was more infamously known for his ’90s murder trial and later legal issues that landed him in jail, passing came via a statement from his family.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” they wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

“He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” they added.

His death comes nearly 30 years after the murder and the subsequent trial that made him a household name.

Simpson was acquitted of the brutal double murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and waiter Ron Goldman, on Oct. 3, 1995.
