An Omaha firefighter was shocked by a downed power line while battling a blaze near L Street and east of Interstate 80 on Monday night.

A basketball backboard is melted Tuesday after a fire near L Street and east of Interstate 80 in Omaha. A firefighter was electrocuted by a downed power line while fighting the fire Monday night.

The firefighter is expected to recover, the Omaha Fire Department said in a press release.

The incident happened when firefighters were dispatched to a house fire near 90th and L Streets around 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames emitting from the house. All residents had evacuated from the house before firefighters arrived.

The fire was extinguished in less than 15 minutes. But one firefighter was injured by a power line that had fallen on a metal fence.

The firefighter was taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy …
