Over 1.2 million rechargeable lights recalled due to fire hazard, 1 death reported [Video]

More than 1.2 million rechargeable integrated lights have been recalled due to a fire and burn hazard.

This is because the light’s battery can overheat and ignite its plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers, according to an announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

On June 6, Good Earth Lighting Inc. recalled more than 1.2 million of its rechargeable integrated lights after one person died, and another was treated for smoke inhalation when the product overheated and caused a fire in a home last year.

There are nine additional reports of lights overheating, including six that resulted in fires and property damage.

The recall involves rechargeable lights with model numbers RE1122, RE1145, RE1362 and RE1250. In addition, about 37,800 lights were sold in Canada. The lights were manufactured in Cambodia and China.
