Pedestrian killed after hit by pickup truck in Slidell police say [Video]

SLIDELL, La. — A Slidell man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly hit another man with his pickup truck on Gause Boulevard W. (Highway 190W), according to the Slidell Police Department.

Eric Gonzalez, 36, was arrested. Officers said Gonzalez was driving a pickup truck. His truck traveled off the roadway and hit Jairus Pratt, 42, who was walking on the shoulder of the highway.

“When officers arrived, they observed a man suffering from injuries in the roadway, and a red 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, badly damaged in a ditch.”

Police said Pratt was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Slidell P.D. said they believe Gonzalez was under the influence based on evidence gathered at the scene. Although officers did not immediately give specific details about that evidence.  

Officers said Saturday that toxicology results were pending.
