Pedestrians concerned about safety with construction [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – Road construction is causing concerns for bicyclists and pedestrians on the west side of Rapid City.

The Sheridan Lake Road Reconstruction project is not only impacting vehicular travel but also foot traffic. This has led to concerns in the community regarding their safety.

Some of the major concerns are about the east side of the road’s pavement being reduced to a 5-foot path with a median of dirt and crossing the road.

“The issues with the reconstruction with this portion of Sheridan Lake Road are similar for pedestrians as they are for vehicles. There is just really not a good place to detour them, or take them while it is getting rebuilt,” John Van Beek, president of the company leading the construction project, Avid4, said.
