Pee Wee Pats playschool helping develop childcare leaders [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Daycare has quickly become a hot commodity in the region. A program within the Sioux Falls School District looks to not only give parents another option for care but also to develop the next generation of childcare leaders.

The Pee Wee Pats playschool is not located in an actual daycare, but rather within the walls of Lincoln High School, and the teachers are actually students themselves.

“So right now, my students each take a day being the lead teacher,” said Kali Sloup, Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. “We recruit preschoolers from the community. Some have relation to the students here at Lincoln or some of the teachers here, we have little siblings.”

The student teachers are in their second semester of Child Development classes, which allows them to work hands-on with the little ones.
