Perry Police: man facing arson charge after house fire [Video]

PERRY, Iowa — A man is facing attempted murder and arson charges after allegedly trying to burn down a house with people inside, according to the Perry Police Department.

Police said they were called to a home in the 1700 block of 3rd Street in Perry around 4 p.m. Monday for a disturbance and possible fire. That is about a half mile east of Perkins Park.

The Perry Fire Department also responded to the home, and was able to contain the fire to the house’s back porch before it was put out.

Officers on scene were able to meet with the homeowners when they arrived. The homeowners said the suspect, Marcus During, threatened to burn the house down and kill those inside. They also said he was the one who attempted to start the fire.
