Person falls off boat at Chicago ‘Playpen,’ crews suspend water search in Lake Michigan, authorities say [Video]

Witnesses told Chicago police and fire officials that a person fell off of a boat and into the water in Lake Michigan Saturday afternoon.

On a busy afternoon in Chicago’s “Playpen,” safety crews responded to several emergency calls.

Crews could be seen searching the water near in the enclosed boating area near downtown. After about an hour looking for someone who reportedly fell into the water, safety crews called off their search for the evening, authorities told ABC7.

“All of a sudden, we started seeing helicopters flying around and a lot of ambulances and fire department and the dive squad and all that stuff so we knew something was up,” witness Ted Widen said.

Widen was out on a separate boat. He said the nice weather brought a large crowd to the “Playpen” Saturday.
