PGE faces pushback for proposing 5-acre clearing of trees [Video]

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Portland General Electric (PGE) received pushback after proposing a plan to remove five acres of trees from Forest Park.

PGE said they need to remove the trees to upgrade the electrical system as part of their “Harborton Reliability Project.”

The company said removing the trees would allow PGE to upgrade an existing transmission line that connects Harborton Substation to the West. They also plan to add a new quarter-mile line to increase reliability.

According to PGE, the current electrical system is outdated and cannot transmit electricity at the levels required.

Some groups, such as the Forest Park Conservancy, have raised issues with PGE’s plan. They said they worry about the impacts of the tree removal program on the ecosystem as well as the Northern Red-Legged Frog.
