Phoenix PD launches speed enforcement program to combat deadly accidents involving pedestrians [Video]

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix Police Department has released a report showing the number of deadly crashes involving pedestrians from 2022 until now.

They aren’t encouraged by the numbers, and it’s led to a new program to cut down on these types of accidents.

The report showed the following data:

• 996 deadly accidents involving pedestrians in 2022
• 994 deadly accidents involving pedestrians in 2023
• 369 deadly accidents involving pedestrians from January to April this year

Sergeant Brian Bower with the Phoenix Police Department said these are numbers that they don’t want to see.

In an effort to learn the root of this problem and lower the numbers, Sgt. Bower said the department is trying a new approach, a Speed Enforcement Program, relying on data reported from areas in the Valley with the most complaints and accidents.
