Police: Distressed man holds 2 kids hostage in Ashland [Video]

ASHLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Two children are safe after being held hostage by a Central Point man for nearly seven hours on Thursday.

Around 6 p.m., Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) received a call that a suicidal, potentially armed man had taken children hostage in an Ashland apartment.

The call reported that the man, identified as 36-year-old Erik Macias, was holding two kids, four and seven years old, hostage in an apartment on the 300 block of Engle Street in Ashland.

Jackson County officers responded to assist the Ashland Police Department (APD) around 9 p.m.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), their Crisis Negotiations Team was able to make phone contact with Macias and tried to negotiate with him for around three hours.
