Police: Driver ignored warning arms and lights at crossing, struck by oncoming train [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – One person died Friday morning after being struck while driving a car across train tracks.

The Kansas City Police Department stated a blue Jaguar S-Type was driving northbound on Holmes Road when a Union Pacific Railroad freight train approached. According to a crash report, the driver drove around the lowered train warning arms, ignoring the warning lights and audible signals.

The Jaguar tried to cross a second train crossing and was struck by the front engine of the oncoming train, police reported.

Fire officials stated the collision took place in the area of Blue Ridge Boulevard and Holmes Road just before 8 a.m.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. The train crew was uninjured.
