Police ID man killed in motorcycle crash on I-295 in Henrico [Video]

Virginia State Police on Tuesday identified the victim of a fatal Tuesday morning crash on Interstate 295 North in Henrico County as William Michael Birkett, 63, of Stony Creek.

Police said officers responded to the scene at around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, and determined that Birkett had been operating a 2022 Tri-Glide Ultra Classic Harley Davidson motorcycle on the I-295 North exit ramp onto Interstate 895 West when he ran off the road to the right, struck a guard trail and was ejected from the three-wheeled vehicle.

Birkett, who police said was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
