Police investigating fatal auto-pedestrian crash on Savannah Highway [Video]

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston Police Department is responding to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a car Sunday night.

Police said the crash happened around 10 p.m. on Savannah Highway near Carrillo Street between Ashley Town Center Drive and Savage Road.

The Charleston Police Department reported the crash on social media, advising drivers to expect delays as the southbound lanes were shut down in the area.

Sgt. Chris Stinson said a pedestrian staying at a nearby hotel tried to walk across Savannah Highway with another person. A woman was hit by a tow truck going south. The truck stayed at the scene.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the traffic unit at 843-965-4084.
