PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – As the City of Portland’s fiscal year winds down, city officials are warning that there may be significant cuts to city bureaus, including public safety, next year.
One of the bureaus needing to save money is Portland Fire & Rescue.
According to the City Budget Office, the Fire Bureau has an $11 million deficit. The city cited a mandatory overtime model for staff stations as one of the largest contributors to the lack of cash. But one-time pandemic dollars from the federal government are also ending leaving holes in expenses across the city government.
