Portlanders gather, dress in orange for Gun Violence Awareness Day at PCC [Video]

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Several organizations including Portland Moms Demand Action gathered at Portland Community College on Saturday and dressed in orange for National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

Gun violence survivors also shared their stories to shed some light on the topic.

Thousands of Providence nurses announced plans to strike in what would be the largest nurses strike in Oregon history.

“At the end of the day, they are people, they are brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers that are taken from families and not just a number that you read on a statistic,” said Riamyrie Walter with the Portland Office of Violence Prevention. “And we want to honor them and remember the lives that they brought to the community they were in.”

The Portland Office of Violence Prevention also shared resources with community members who have been impacted by gun violence.
