President Biden approves Major Disaster Declaration request by Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders [Video]

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The request for a Major Disaster Declaration made by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been approved by President Joe Biden.

A release by the governor stated the request is for federal assistance in the recovery efforts for Northwest Arkansas communities impacted by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes that began on May 24.

In a letter of request sent to President Biden on May 29, Governor Sanders’ detailed the extensive, deadly storms that hit the state Memorial Day weekend and why the damage would be classified as a Major Disaster.

The Major Disaster Declaration approval provides Arkansas with federal assistance to individuals and public assistance categories for Benton, Boone and Marion counties, as well as U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans.

The approval also covers direct federal assistance and Hazard Mitigation statewide, according to the release.
