Pride Rainbow Run 5K held to celebrate Pride Month in Holyoke [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Saturday marked the first ever Holyoke Pride Rainbow Run 5K and One Mile Fun Walk to celebrate Pride Month.

Saturday morning, organizer and long-time runner Jeffrey Anderson-Burgos welcomed people of all ages and abilities to promote health and inclusivity.

Pridefest started in Holyoke two years ago with new events being added each year.

Anderson-Burgos told us, “To me, this was the perfect merging of two different communities that I belong to, both being very inclusive and supportive communities. I love the running community, and of course pride is all about inclusivity, so it’s the perfect way to bring two communities together.”

The city of Holyoke assisted in some of the fees for the event, along with a lengthy list of sponsors from western Mass. The event is set to return next June, alongside Pridefest, a pride flag raising, a block party, and more.
