Proposed cellphone tower in Tupelo tabled as power company joins opposition | News [Video]

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) – A local power cooperative has joined homeowners in expressing concerns about a proposed cell tower in west Tupelo.

The Verizon cell tower could be built near McCullough Boulevard and Interstate 22

The Tombigbee Electric Power Association CEO Scott Hendrix said the proposed tower would be too close to an electrical transmitter. 

He added that the tower would make it difficult for line crews to do maintenance.

People who live near the proposed tower site voiced safety concerns last week. 

One man who lived near the proposed site brought up safety and harmony with the neighborhood.

The city council was expected to discuss the proposal at a meeting Tuesday. However, the issue has been tabled until further notice.
