Rapid City makes plans to keep pedestrians, cyclists safe [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – In 2020, Rapid City adopted the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan to help improve roads, bikeways and pedestrian crossings throughout the city. The original plan did not include many safety provisions, and now the city wants to expand on that plan with a more focused look into making sidewalks, roadways, and bike paths safer.

“In 2020 we produced a bicycle and pedestrian master plan which had a list of recommended improvements that we could do around town,” said Kip Harrington, manager of the Rapid City Department of Community Development. “However, they were not quite safety-focused as much as we needed them to be. So this report will take a real look at safety and then allow us to have some ideas of what kind of infrastructure improvements we can use to increase safety throughout town.
