RAPID CITY, S.D. – From April 8-12, South Dakota and Minnesota will kicking off their Severe Weather Awareness Week. The primary objective of the week is to educate the public about safety measures necessary during various weather phenomena.

Throughout the week, a range of topics will be covered, including tornadoes, flash floods, hail and severe thunderstorms.

The Rapid City National Weather Service will play a role by putting information on each of these topics via their social media.

Dave Hintz, Meteorologist in Charge at the Rapid City National Weather Service, explained, “Each day we highlight a certain facet of severe weather. It could be flash floods, tornadoes, it could be severe thunderstorms. And we highlight that particular feature. Just to talk a little bit more in depth about it, why it’s severe, what makes it severe, etc. And talk about safety.”
