Record rain around Pittsburgh causes heavy flooding, damage [Video]

A flood warning is in effect until at least 8 p.m. Friday evening for most of southwestern Pennsylvania.

Thursday’s torrential rains led to flooding through the overnight hours. Rainfall reached a record: The National Weather Service says 2.77 inches of rain fell, exceeding the April 11 record by more than an inch.

On Route 51, Pittsburgh EMS and Swiftwater Rescue first responders assisted with a sinking vehicle on the roadway.

Oakdale saw waters get as high as four feet, flooding many businesses and homes in its downtown area along the way.

Fire Crews got right to work this morning and members of the community weren’t far behind according to local Gary Laughterbach.
