Red Cross, firefighters team up to install smoke alarms and discuss fire safety [Video]

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – An effort is underway to ensure that everyone has a working smoke alarm in the Green Bay area.

On Saturday morning, firefighters took the time to install alarms and talk about fire safety with some families.

This is all part of a campaign called “Sound the Alarm,” which held its kick-off event, hosted by the Red Cross and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department. Over the next month, their goal is to provide over 500 people with free smoke alarms.

The Red Cross says home fires account for a majority of the 60,000 disasters that the organization responds to on average each year across the country.
