Boston police have obtained new evidence from old sexual assault evidence collection kits by submitting them for advanced testing, but the promising development has stalled inside the department’s crime lab as the suspected rapists’ DNA profiles have sat unsubmitted for months, according to a report prepared by the department.With the help of a federal grant, Boston police provided an outside lab with evidence from 100 older rape kits that previously had not yielded DNA profiles of the attackers.
