Bob Andrews, chair of the Syracuse Republican Committee, will soon be appointed to the Onondaga County Legislature.
Syracuse, NY – In December, a politician walked into Laci’s Tapas Bar in Syracuse to chat with owners Laura Serway and Cindy Seymour.
The pair are life and business partners, loyal Democrats married by Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner as soon as it was legal for two women to marry.
But the man wasn’t talking about social issues. He listened to the story of how the women renovated one old building, then another in the Hawley-Green neighborhood. They talked about architecture and slumlords and how they try to promote women-owned businesses.
He thought their story captured the essence of the American dream.
Then, Bob Andrews handed them his business card.
It said, “Chairman of the Syracuse Republican Committee.”
“I think it burned their hands a little,” Andrews said, laughing.
The women were surprised. But months later, they are still talking business with Andrews.
