Riverside ravaged by flooding; Officials have no easy answers with recovery underway [Video]

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Dozens of Sioux City residents are searching for answers after floodwaters barreled over the city’s defenses, with money for recovery efforts difficult to come by.

Mayor Bob Scott thought the city underestimated the floodwaters, even if there was little city employees could ultimately do. A heartbreaking scene as resident after resident confronted the city council.

One resident lost ashes, another cannot return home – her house is red-tagged.

Here’s the bottom line: The Riverside area is devastated, but right now, Woodbury County is not part of the federal disaster declaration, meaning it’s not clear if federal aid will ever roll in.

“I lost my wife three years ago, and I lost all our wedding pictures and everything. I have nothing right now,” said Deanna Mercure.
