ROCHESTER, Minn.- Mayor Kim Norton proclaimed Monday, May 20, to be Rochester FAITH! Heart Health Day, to promote better heart health outcomes across the community.
The announcement focused on the work that the Fostering African American Improvement in Total Health (FAITH!)’s Cardiovascular Health and Wellness Program were doing to promote better heart health outcomes in Rochester’s African American community.
FAITH primarily works with health care providers and black owned churches to break down barriers to health and wellness and promote equity in health care outcomes.
According to Dr. LaPrincess Brewer, a cardiologist and associate professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic, there can be many barriers to heart health including access to healthy food, excercise or even education on what food is best for longterm heart health.
