CORDES LAKES, AZ (AZFamily)—A motorhome fire sparked on Friday a wildfire that has burned hundreds of acres off Interstate 17 in northern Arizona but appears to be dying down.
Officials said it caused the Ironwood Fire, which has burned more than 200 acres just east of the freeway near Cordes Lakes. Buildings are within a quarter mile of the flames.
People in Cordes Lakes are being told to be set to evacuate at any time.
The RV caught fire on the right shoulder of the freeway on the northbound side around 4 p.m., the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Troopers said everyone got out of the RV safely, but ammunition started going off.
No one was hurt.
Firefighters in the air and on the ground are battling the Ironwood Fire.
Northbound I-17 was closed at Bloody Basin and Sunset Point but reopened around 7:45 p.m.
The southbound lanes weren’t affected.
