Salvage begins at Las Vegas Boat Harbor 5 days after fire, docks partially reopening [Video]

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Salvage operations are beginning at Las Vegas Boat Harbor and officials are warning people to stay away from areas of the marina damaged in the June 9 fire that destroyed 11 boats.

“Be aware of divers and crews and follow any verbal instructions given. This is for your safety and dive crews and dock crew safety,” according to an update provided by Candice Hayes, general manager for Boating Lake Mead.

The two docks damaged as flames spread from a houseboat in the early morning hours are beginning to open in stages, Hayes said.

At the “R” dock, areas unaffected by the fire and the investigation will open to the public via shuttle only. Officials ask that people don’t hang out by the dock. Boat owners are free to take boats on the lake, but they must schedule their return by shuttle, which will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. …
