SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — May is American Stroke Month, also known as American Stroke Awareness Month. Anyone at any age can have a stroke so it is important to recognize the symptoms and learn about stroke prevention. Stroke symptoms include loss of balance or dizziness, blurred vision, one side of the face droops, arm or leg weakness, and difficulty with speech. If you have any of these symptoms or see someone presenting them, call 9-1-1 immediately. After treatment for a stroke, patients can go to rehab at the Shannon Rehabilitation Center. Rehabilitation includes physical therapy, help with functional difficulties like showering and speech therapy.

For prevention, blood pressure and cholesterol levels are key factors in helping prevent a stroke by maintaining both at normal levels. Health officials also say that exercise is also beneficial in preventing a stroke.
