Springfield Police Academy graduation ceremony taking place for 35 new officers [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – 35 new graduating officers will be joining the police forces across Western Mass.

A monumental moment for the newest class of Springfield Police Academy will be welcomed in by Springfield’s New Police Superintendent Lawrence Akers and Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno.

The recruit class began their 22 weeks of training back in November and now 25 of them will become Springfield police officers and the rest of the class will serve in other communities including Westfield and Holyoke as well as at the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Springfield College and Greenfield Community College.

Ahead of Thursday’s graduation ceremony Mayor Sarno making a statement to the graduating class saying in part quote:

Thursday’s graduation ceremony will be held this morning at Springfield College at 11am.
