SSE Airtricity pledges 5m to support community green initiatives [Video]

SSE Airtricity has launched a €5mn all-island Community Fund with the aim of delivering “meaningful community benefits”.

A ten week consultation process is inviting views from communities, individuals and organisations from towns, villages, inner cities, and rural heartlands, to advise how the fund could best support green initiatives in their locality.

Examples of priorities may include green energy upgrades for community buildings, community biodiversity projects or green skills workshops and education, the company said.

SSE clarified that the fund will not support activities which benefit individuals.  The fund will not be open to applications that promote religious or political activities, fund debts, or running costs and will not act as a replacement for statutory funding.
