CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Since 1989, the month of May has been recognized as “National Stroke Awareness Month”, raising awareness about the prevention and treatment of strokes, supporting stroke survivors, and educating the public on the impact of this medical condition.

Strokes can happen to anyone, at anytime, and are not only known as the “silent killer”, but also the sixth leading cause of death for people in Wyoming. “Stroke is a really prevalent disease, especially here in Wyoming, we have a higher stroke percentage per capita then a lot of other places in the nation.” says Banner Wyoming Medical Center’s, Stroke Program Manager, Sara Kemper. Kemper continues, “A lot of it has to do with kind of our resources in the state, our health comorbidities and the way we take care of ourselves, but for stroke we really want the community to know what to look for.”
