Supreme Court ruling in favor of gun control a win for domestic violence survivors in KC [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Supreme Court upheld a major ruling on a gun control law intended to protect victims of domestic violence. Advocates of domestic violence survivors deem this ruling a victory.

The law in question restricts people under domestic violence restraining orders from having guns. In an 8-1 decision, the high court rejected the argument that the law violated the second amendment.

“I lost a dear friend to domestic violence by a gun. She had said no and left her abuser after months of abuse and he came to her door and he turned around and he shot her,” said Newhouse KC chief marketing officer Rachel Hodgson.

Last year, Kansas City based- domestic violence shelter Newhouse KC answered more than 1,500 calls from domestic violence survivors. They say many of these calls have been from victims at the dangerous intersections of both domestic violence and firearms.
