Texas DPS aims to lower road incidents as Big Country enters high motorcycle-involved crash season [Video]

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Across the Big Country, more motorcyclists are appearing on the roads with the summertime season. As the weather heats up, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging a message to motorcyclists and drivers to use caution on the roads.

Sergeant Marc Couch with Texas DPS told KTAB/KRBC he’s noticed a trend in the number of crashes growing with each year, but this year he hopes to change that course.

“It’s summertime and people like to get their motorcycles out, begin riding, and so we’re just really stressing safety in this portion of the year,” Sgt. Couch said. “2023 [was] in the teens, usually around 20-25 motorcycle crashes. But my job, what we’re trying to do right now, is I’m trying to to lower that.”
